Autumn Term 2020 

 

 

 Our Topic this Term is

Stone Age to Iron Age!

 

We will be stepping back in time to explore British pre-history, from the ancient people of the Stone Age through to the more advanced civilisations of the Bronze and Iron Ages. 

 

 

Things we need to remember:

 

PE shoes suitable for indoor and outdoor use should be in school at all times. Our PE slots are on Tuesday and Friday (we will not be changing into full PE kits due to COVID restrictions). 

Spelling test on Monday

Homework given on Friday to be handed in on the following Thursday

DIARY DATES


 

 

 WRITING:  

We will be writing a letter from a boy about his encounter with a Stone Age Child based around the books 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura and 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King. We will also be using our senses to describe a Stone Age village.

 

We will plan and write a newspaper report about the Stone Age Boy's adventure. 

We will also be working hard to improve our spelling, punctuation and grammar. 

MATHS:   

 

 This term we will be:

  • Comparing and using place value up to 10,000, including negative numbers and Roman numerals.
  • Adding and subtracting using up to 4 digits and solving problems.
  • Multiplying by 0,1,10 and 100, times tables and related division facts.
  • Investigating length and perimeter. 

 

By the end of Year 4 Children should know all of their multiplication tables and division facts up to 12 so please support your child's learning of these. 

READING:

Children should read for at least 20 minutes each day at home, preferably to an adult. They should keep a record of their reading in their Reading Record and it should be signed by an adult.

This half term we will study Islam and investigate the question 'Why is Muhammad called the seal of the Prophets?'

After half term we will be thinking about the question 'How does believing Jesus is their Saviour inspire Christians to save and serve others?'
