Our Curriculum

Unique Curriculum of Stonham Aspal CEVAP School

‘SEQUENTIAL, AMBITIOUS, SUPPORTIVE’

Cultural Capital

We aim to give children the best possible start to their early education. Our curriculum ensures that our children leave Stonham Aspal CEVAP School with the essential knowledge to prepare them well for their future success as they transition to High School.

What makes our curriculum special to Stonham Aspal?

‘Every Child Matters’  – through our rich, broad and balanced curriculum our children are carefully provided for, so that they are effectively prepared for the next step in their educational journey, therefore giving them the tools they need to maximise their educational potential.

Our long-term goal is, through a range of strategies that our curriculum provides the best possible launch pad for our children to step up onto for the next part of their educational journey.

We do this through;

  • Prioritising reading as a core skill providing reading time every morning in all KS 1 and KS 2 classes
  • Regularly reviewed class provision maps which identify gaps and then build in interventions to address the gaps – phonics, reading, writing and maths
  • A rich and broad curriculum offer ensuring our children leave here well prepared and ready to develop their skills for all the subject areas identified in the Primary National Curriculum
  • Clubs and peripatetic tuition are used to further enhance our offer, e.g. sports clubs, flute, piano and guitar lessons.

Complementing our focus of ‘Every Child Matters’ we have the following themes that underpin all that we do here.

  • Our Christian ethos and values
  • Our life and learning skills
  • Our inclusive ethos
  • Our high expectations
  • Our carefully chosen and timed topic themes
  • Our links to our locality

Christian Ethos:

Our six core Christian Values: patience, kindness, respect, courage, wisdom and peace are threaded through all our actions and learning. They are a good prescription to live by and uphold God’s name.

Life and Learning Skills:

IMPACT – Independence, Motivation, Perseverance, Aim High, Creativity and Teamwork – these core skills are also threaded through all our actions and our learning and develop our children to have the key skills necessary to become the best that they can be.

Our Inclusive Ethos:

All our stakeholders are welcomed and included to enable all to feel welcome and all are able to thrive here at Stonham Aspal CEVAP School.

Our High Expectations:

Our goal is for all our children to achieve their potential and therefore our drive is to ensure that any child has the opportunity to achieve their best.

Topics and Themes:

Our carefully chosen topic themes and carefully timed topics are designed to engage and motivate children to learn and achieve their best.

Locality Links :

We make connections to our locality as much as possible to enrich our curriculum, examples include;

In addition to this, we bring visitors in to bring our curriculum to life;

Also, to enrich we have dress up days – the seaside, explorers, Minions etc

At Stonham Aspal CE Primary School, we follow the National Curriculum 2014. From the statutory objectives set out in this document we have developed a creative curriculum based around half termly topics/themes. This runs on a two-year rolling programme to ensure broad and balanced coverage for all pupils. The long term plans below outline the themes covered in each term. These are working documents and changes may be made at any time.
